Could it be that it's actually doing what it's supposed to be doing, but doing it so differently to how Windows (and older versions of Mac) do it that it just isn't compatible? New files created with 2016 will open fine in 2016 but he still can't open the old files in 2016, they only open in 2011, on his MAC only. As stated its not only his machine, it's the physical files themselves, as soon as Office 2011 is removed, no one is able to open those files from any machines and client version. Had to unistall restart and clean up registry, restart and reinstall.

Default program set right but file or opening process still calling 2010 had to open from with in the program and not double click.

outlook 2010 removed yet still showed the icon on all of these files wanting to open with 2010 but actually opening with 2016.

I noticed some issues that might be of relevance to checkout. I had this on a windows machine just the other day. How the heck is Office 2011 spreading corruption upon EVERY excel files after removal and "fixing" them after being reinstalled. Now ALL those files that were previously corrupted to the core and couldn`t be opened on ANY machines now opens fine. Obviously something went south during the removal of office 2011 so I reinstalled it. EVERY other excel files can`t open and crashes excel as well, and EVERY file that were on his Mac prior to the removal of Office 2011 are all crashing every version of Office on my machines. I thought the file must have been corrupted so we opened an earlier version of the file prior to the removal of office 2011 from a backup we had, the file opens fine. I sent this file to myself and tried to open it from my Windows PC, no go excel crashes, tried to open on another Mac, crash, tried to open on another mac with Office 2011, crash. Thought maybe his excel 2016 got corrupted so I re-installed it from scratch, still no go. I went through his mac, checked the excel files and fair enough, he can`t open them. This morning he came to me stating he couldn`t open certain excel files he had on his mac since we removed office 2011. Told him no as he`s been working with 2016 for the past year and his outlook identity was already brought over form 2011. Last Friday one of these people (Had to be my CFO) came to me and asked me if he still needed Office 2011 on his Mac as we had him upgraded to Office 2016 last year.
